It's that time of the year again and OpenJS World is almost upon us. This annual event brings together both the JavaScript and Web communities, which include not only Node.js, but other OpenJS Foundation projects such as Electron, webpack, and more.

Red Hat and IBM will both be back as sponsors, and will be delivering some great talks as well. The last two conferences were remote affairs, but this year's edition will be held in person in Austin, Texas, from June 6th through 10th.

If you are there in person, stop by either the Red Hat or IBM booth to talk.

    Talks and keynote

The Node.js team here at Red Hat will be talking about upgrading Node.js as well as the future of the environment. Joe Sepi, our partner at IBM, will talk about embracing open source to cope with the great reshuffle. We hope to see you at these talks.

Talk: Debugging your way through a Node.js Upgrade

Presenter: Bethany Griggs (@bethgriggs_), Senior Software Engineer, Red Hat
    Tuesday, June 7th, 2022, 3:40 p.m. CDT

New major versions of Node.js are eagerly anticipated for all the new features and capabilities they bring. But for many engineering teams, upgrading to a new major version can be a daunting process. It's not always easy to associate a change in your application's behavior with an entry in the changelog. And it's not always obvious if or how you will need to amend your code to successfully upgrade. In this talk, Bethany will share her experiences helping teams upgrade to new versions of Node.js, with some practical shortcuts and tips she's learned along the way.

    Talk: Node.js: What's next

Presenter: Michael Dawson (@mhdawson1), Node.js lead, Red Hat
    Tuesday, June 7th, 2022, 4:20 p.m. CDT

Want to know what's next for Node.js? New features? Major changes? Key initiatives at the technical and organizational level? This talk will give you an update on what is up and coming on the Node.js front across the board. In this talk, you will:

    • Learn about new features in the latest versions of Node.js
    • Learn about the work of the Next-10 team and how they are working to define and progress the technical areas that are key to the future success of Node.js
    • Gain insight into how to leverage some of the new technology within Node.js
    • Learn how you can get involved and make a difference

Keynote: Embracing open source to beat the great reshuffle

Presenter: Joe Sepi (Joe_Sepi), Program Director of Open Tech, IBM
    Tuesday, June 8th, 2022, 11:40 a.m. CDT

Integrating open source at the core of your business makes good sense from a business perspective in a variety of ways. In this keynote, Joe will focus on the people part of the benefits, from talent to culture. Empowering employees to be authentically engaged in open source can provide access to an excellent hiring pipeline, help insulate companies against the "great reshuffling," and bring you greater returns on your investment.

For a full list of the various keynotes and talks, check out the OpenJS World 2022 schedule.

    Collaborator Summit

The Collaborator Summit is often collocated with OpenJS World, and is one of the add-ons that the team looks forward to. We hope to see you there and talk with you about all things JavaScript and Node.js. Our team members will either be leading or active participants in many of the sessions.

The Summit is for maintainers or core contributors of an OpenJS project, and for any open source enthusiast who is interested in participating. This is the time for deep dives on important topics, and to meet with people working across your favorite JavaScript projects. The Summit runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, June 10. Get more details here.
