Today, we are announcing the general availability of Red Hat Software Collections 2.4, Red Hat’s latest set of open source web development tools, dynamic languages, and databases. We are also announcing Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.1, which helps to streamline application development on Red Hat Enterprise Linux by giving developers access to some of the latest, stable open source C and C++ compilers and complementary development tools.

New language additions to Red Hat Software Collections 2.4 include:

    • Nginx 1.10
    • Node.js v6
    • Ruby 2.4
    • Ruby on Rails 5.0
    • Scala 2.10

Updated runtime languages and databases in Red Hat Software Collections 2.4 include:

    • Apache HTTP Server 2.4
    • Apache Maven 3.3
    • Eclipse 4.6.2
    • Python 2.7
    • Thermostat 1.6

Additionally, Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.1 includes the latest stable versions of the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) 6, 6.3.1, and GNU Debugger (GDB). Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.1 continues to be accessible across architectures, supported on both Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Power and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for z Systems and available on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server for ARM Developer Preview.

For developers looking to take advantage of Linux containers, many of the most popular Red Hat Software Collections are also available as dockerfiles or docker-formatted images, made available through the Red Hat Customer Portal (Click Explore the Catalog, and then for example, Programming Languages and Runtimes). This makes it easy to build and deploy applications in containers that use Red Hat Software Collections components.

Applications built with Red Hat Software Collections can be deployed into production with confidence, as most software collections and components are supported for up to three years, including security patches and bug fixes. In addition to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7, applications built with Red Hat Software Collections can also be deployed to Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, giving more choice and flexibility for application portfolios.

    How to Download

Red Hat Software Collections 2.4 and Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.1 are available now to customers with select active Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions, as well as through the Red Hat Developer Program via the no-cost Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer Subscription.
