Developers at Red Hat Summit: announcing API Escape Room

April 7, 2017

On May 2-4, the Red Hat community will get together for the annual Red Hat Summit in Boston, and Red Hatters are putting together an awesome agenda to provide you with a lot of product announcements and workshops.

The RH Summit week could be really intense, so before getting immersed in the conference, why not having a night for fun hacking (with good food and beer)?  If you're up for some fun, this year will be no different! On "Summit eve", at 6pm on TUESDAY, May 2nd, come and check out Red Hat Summit’s newest attraction: the API Escape Room CodeStarter [1]!

Yes, you read it right! An escape room with APIs!

In the past, at 3scale we had SpeedHack at our API conferences. During those 3 hours, hackers would gather in a room to solve API puzzles in teams of 2. It was a lot of fun as you can see here:

If you are not familiar with the concept of escape rooms, just imagine being locked in a room with your friends. Your only way out is to collect objects in the room and solve puzzles, i.e. - connect dots to find a key to open a hidden door...

The API Escape Room will be a similar experience, but you will have to solve puzzles by making API requests and showing your code skills more generally. Play in teams of up to 3 (and if you don’t have a team we will match you with one). We are still working on the scenario and the APIs you will have to use to find your way out, but we can guarantee it will be a lot of fun. To our knowledge this is the first attempt at an API Escape Room, so the winning team will be making history: come enjoy the moment with us!

It’s a great opportunity to discover new APIs. You will feel a sense of excitement and competition and have fun with friends all at the same time.

If you are interested in taking part in this API escape room, signup HERE, we will send more information as we get closer to the date.

    DETAILS:

    • When: TUESDAY, May 2nd 6-9pm
    • Where: Red Hat Summit room 210A
    • Who: Exclusive for registered attendees of Red Hat Summit
    • Go here to register.

One more thing - 3 actually - there will be lots of food, beer, wine, and swag.

[1] A CodeStarter is a hack fest of sorts, but with a fun competitive experience where everyone wins.
