Overview: How to achieve multi-cluster resiliency with Red Hat

Ensuring application resiliency across diverse environments is now a foundational requirement. As organizations increasingly adopt hybrid and multi-cloud strategies, they need robust solutions that abstract infrastructure complexities, whether on-premises, in the public cloud, or at the edge. Red Hat leads this evolution, delivering innovative approaches with Submariner, Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh, and the Kubernetes Gateway API to enable comprehensive, full-mesh resiliency for critical applications.

This learning path introduces the key challenges faced by organizations employing multi-cluster environments and showcases how Red Hat technologies combine with other open source tools to provide a comprehensive solution. Lesson 1 lays out the foundational theories behind these hurdles and Red Hat’s solutions, and Lesson 2 guides you through the practical implementation of these solutions.

Prerequisites (for the entire path):

  • A solid understanding of core Kubernetes and OpenShift concepts (i.e., pods, services, deployments, and operators).
  • Familiarity with basic networking principles (DNS, load balancers, IPsec).
  • Basic experience with the oc and subctl command-line tools.
  • Conceptual knowledge of a service mesh and its purpose.
  • Understanding the concept of the Kubernetes Gateway API.
  • Experience with Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes.
  • 2 x OpenShift 4.18 clusters (4.19 recommended)
  • 1 x OpenShift 4.18 Advanced Cluster Management cluster (RHACM = 2.12 and above)
  • Cluster-admin privileges on the participating clusters.

In this learning path, you will:

  • Understand the challenges organizations employing multi-cluster applications face.
  • Explore the architecture for achieving robust multi-cluster application resiliency.
  • Discover how Red Hat OpenShift, Submariner, Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh, and the Kubernetes Gateway API integrate to create a seamless networking fabric across diverse environments.
  • Review the Kubernetes manifests required to implement the solution.
