In May 2025, I had the pleasure of teaming up with Markus Eisele at Devoxx UK to deliver a session that blends the power of integration systems with agentic AI powered by local LLMs. It was a blast to share the stage and dive into this exciting intersection of tech!
Our goal? To drive home the message that AI opens up thrilling new possibilities, but you still need a robust toolbox to connect systems, transform data, and make it all flow seamlessly. The session introduces this concept beautifully, with a dynamic, live demo that steals the show. It showcases how integration and AI can unlock incredible potential, spark uncharted ideas, and leave you buzzing with inspiration for the rest of the day.
AI is evolving at lightning speed, and soon it’ll be helping us design and build complex distributed architectures. As someone who’s been in the integration game for years, I can’t stress enough the value of using proven technologies over a DIY approach. That said, I totally respect junior developers who roll up their sleeves to build from scratch—it’s a fantastic way to learn how powerful, battle-tested building blocks like Apache Camel come together.
Having explored countless integration technologies, I’ve seen their strengths and weaknesses up close. For me, Apache Camel always stands out as the go-to choice. It’s lightweight, versatile, backed by a vibrant open-source community, and constantly evolving. I’m also a huge fan of Kaoto, an integration designer that supercharges developer productivity and brings joy to the process. If you’re new to Camel, Kaoto is the perfect way to dive in!
Session Highlights You Don’t Want to Miss:
- Data Ingestion: Seamlessly handling multiple data formats.
- Live Data Mapping: Kaoto’s visual data mapper in action.
- Autonomous Agents: Tool-calling AI doing its thing.
- Agent Collaboration: Agents working together to deliver better results.
- Event-Driven AI: Human-in-the-loop workflows with agents as workers.
