Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers is a new no-cost subscription offered through the Red Hat Developer Program. This offering delivers a complete set of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) software for development and test use cases in business environments, allowing access to 25 physical, virtual, or cloud-based instances per registered user.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers is designed to complement the existing Red Hat Developer Subscription for Individuals which is intended for personal use and the corporate IT-managed Red Hat Developer Subscription for Teams. Developers can acquire and manage the Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers subscription through a self-service model.

Developing on RHEL simplifies the transition to production

RHEL is the world's leading enterprise Linux platform, offering stability, reliability, and security for business-critical applications. The Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers subscription eliminates the cost barrier for development and testing of departmental and line-of-business projects. The new subscription gives you an easy way to reduce friction with your IT department by building on the same operating system approved for production by your business.

    In-depth analysis, insights, and support

With a Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers subscription, you’ll have the same access to consistent performance and compatibility that you get with RHEL used for production environments across diverse infrastructures, from on-premises to public cloud. In addition to curated software languages, frameworks, and debugging tools you’d expect from an enterprise Linux platform, it also integrates Red Hat Lightspeed (formerly Red Hat Insights). This service provides image and content management, analytics, proactive issue identification and resolution, vulnerability alerts, and targeted guidance to optimize uptime and help prevent emergencies caused by security vulnerabilities, non-compliant configurations, and unpatched systems.

Additional support is available with the purchase of the optional Red Hat Developer Subscription for Teams support add-on available from your Red Hat account representative or partner.

    Streamlined container workflows

Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers is designed to work with Podman Desktop, Red Hat’s preferred container development tool on Linux, macOS, and Windows. The Red Hat Subscriptions plug-in for Podman Desktop works with the Red Hat for Business Developer subscription to grant full access to RHEL software for development and testing. The new subscription also works with the Podman Desktop plugin for bootc, which you can use to create image mode for RHEL bootable containers.

When used within the Podman Desktop environment, Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers lets you use image mode for RHEL to marry your container-based development workflows with the traditional bare metal, VM, and cloud deployment and management techniques used by your organization.

This learning path walks you through the steps to build and run a bootable container with image mode for RHEL and Podman Desktop: Build and run a bootable container image with image mode for RHEL and Podman Desktop
