    Introducing OpenShift.io

OpenShift.io is an end-to-end development environment for planning, building and deploying cloud-native applications.

Plan, create and deploy hybrid cloud services in less time, with better results

    • Effortless approach to DevOps
    • One click Linux container environments for developers
    • Better decisions through machine-learned recommendations

Our job at Red Hat is to provide tools that help make developers successful. For us, that doesn’t mean building a better IDE or a single tool in the tool chain. We have a bigger vision for improving the entire development experience. Our goal is to help development teams build better applications and services, not just write better code.

We thought a lot about how we could make our vision a reality and we pulled together a team of talented developers and product managers to take on the challenge. Over the past year, we’ve made tremendous progress. Today, we are proud to announce a new online service - Red Hat OpenShift.io

Red Hat OpenShift.io is an end-to-end development environment for planning, creating and deploying hybrid cloud services in less time, with better results. OpenShift.io extends the already powerful developer features of Red Hat OpenShift Online, a cloud-based container platform that enables developers to build, deploy, host and scale container-based applications. OpenShift.io is open source and incorporates many projects including fabric8, Eclipse Che, OpenJDK, PCP, WildFly Swarm, Eclipse Vert.x, Spring Boot and of course OpenShift.

Together, OpenShift Online and OpenShift.io provide a fully integrated set of development tools that works seamlessly together. This effortless approach to DevOps reduces developer setup time, project risk and the need to build custom integrated toolchains. OpenShift.io automates the entire application pipeline enabling companies to become more DevOps driven and agile.

Developers can now get up and running faster through unique capabilities that automatically create Linux container based environments without the need to install anything locally or deal with docker commands and Kubernetes configuration (or YAML) files. We also make it easier for teams to make better decisions by providing a recommendation engine that uses a combination of crowdsourced data and machine-learned recommendations to help developers use the right packages and identify those that are potentially harmful.

If you’d like to see OpenShift.io in action take a look at our introductory video. Over the coming weeks, we will provide additional details and demos.
