Hello World!

1. Set up your Dev Environment

  1. Install the Java SE Development Kit (JDK) version 8. We recommend using the OpenJDK or the Oracle JDK.

  2. Download JBoss Developer Studio 10.0.0 with JBoss EAP

  3. Run the JBoss Developer Studio installer.

    1. For Mac/Windows Development Hosts:

      1. Go to the folder that contains the downloadeded JBoss Developer Studio JAR file.

      2. Right-click devstudio-10.0.0.GA-installer-eap.jar

      3. Select Open With → Jar Launcher

    2. For Linux Development Hosts:

      1. Go to the folder that contains the JBoss Developer Studio JAR file

      2. Execute the installer:

        $ java -jar devstudio-10.0.0.GA-installer-eap.jar
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to continue the installation process.

      Note: This will execute the JBoss Developer Studio installation wizard. Common Installation Steps: Answer Yesto the question "JBoss Developer Studio includes Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform. Install it now ?"

  4. Start JBoss Developer Studio. See JBoss Developer Studio Installation documentation for details.

2. Install, Configure, and Verify

To verify that the JBoss Developer Studio and JBoss EAP is working correctly, deploy and execute the helloworld quickstart application in an EAP server you will now create and configure:

Note: JBoss EAP is included in JBoss Developer studio, so no additional steps are required to install or configure JBoss EAP after completing the following steps.

  1. In JBoss Developer Studio, Open the Red Hat Central view.
    Note: If the Red Hat Central view is not visible, please click the

    menu icon icon on the main menu bar.

  2. Type helloworld into the search box and click on the helloworld quickstart shown in the result.

  3. Click on Finish. This will download the helloworld application and it’s maven dependencies.

  4. Once all the dependencies are downloaded, you will be presented with a dialog telling you your project is ready. Just click Finish.

  5. On the Servers tab, select jboss-eap and click on the green start button to start the EAP server.

  6. Once the server has been started, select the jboss-helloworld application on the Project Explorer.

    1. From the main menu bar select Run→Run.

    2. Select the "Run on Server" option from the available run options.

    3. Select the newly created jboss-eap server, click Ok and Finish.

This will build, deploy and run the helloworld application inside JBoss EAP server. The application will open the internal JBoss Developer Studio browser and present "Hello World!" Success!
