Releases
Main Release Line: The latest version, 1.30, marks a significant milestone for the New Frontend System. It includes breaking changes in certain APIs, new features, and updates like backend system deprecations and auth sign-in resolver priority changes. See the v1.30.0 release notes for details.

Red Hat Contributions
Red Hat is actively involved in advancing Backstage. We've made significant contributions to key areas like dynamic plugin support, the upstream Helm chart, and plugin development. We also participate actively in the Backstage Community Plugins SIG. Our latest focus is introducing the Auditor service upstream, with the recent merger of the Auditor BEP.
Fall 2024 Backstage Roadmap
The Backstage Roadmap, updated every six months, outlines project priorities. The current priorities have been in progress since May 2024, with the next roadmap update planned for November 2024.
Here's the progress on the new backend and frontend systems:
New Backend System
The team is working towards a stable 1.0 release of the new backend system, focusing on documentation updates, API reviews, and refactoring. The goal is to retire the legacy system by the end of December 2024. Version 1.30 includes steps in that direction with several deprecations and removals.
New Frontend System
The goal is to make the new frontend system ready for plugin migration. This work is informed by community feedback, and v1.30 includes new features, deprecations, and breaking changes to encourage plugin owners to adopt the new system.
