DevNation 2016 kicks off Sunday, June 26, with a welcome reception at Jillian’s Billiards Club of San Francisco (across the street from Moscone at 101 4th Street). As we’ve done in the past, this is a chance to enjoy some tasty food, your favorite beverages, and some fun games like billiards and video arcade games.

But this year, we have Magic: The Gathering!

You can just show up for the evening, but seating is limited for the Magic: the Gathering – Shadows over Innistrad Booster Draft – so click the link below to register.  AND HURRY because we anticipate this to fill up fast!

The top 6 Magic players (see rules) get a custom Red Hat Developers playmat – see below!  Plus a few more will be raffled off so everyone will get a chance at “playmat greatness”.

Google joins DevNation 2016 CodeStarter with Google Cloud Platform – time to hack on Kubernetes

Join Red Hat and Google Cloud Platform for an evening for code hackers. Yes, there will be fabulous food and drink but more importantly we are going to get seriously hands-on with microservices, Linux containers (Docker), Kubernetes+Openshift and Google Cloud Platform. We will be exploring numerous microservices coding patterns and leveraging the power of Kubernetes+OpenShift for managing those microservices at scale. This session will primarily be a series of hands-on exercises but will also include experimentation time. In addition to the great experience, you’ll walk away with some pretty good swag, too.

*What is a CodeStarter? It’s not a hackfest (e.g. a competition with prizes) but an evening of hacking/coding with lots of tasty food and beverages (beer, etc.). And as we mentioned, good swag.

With the recent advancements in modern browsers, more native app-like features are coming to the browser. Things like push notifications, background sync, offline capabilities and home screen app icons have been added to browsers allowing developers to continue building web apps, but now include features that users expect from native apps. So what makes a web app a progressive web app?

DevNation 2016 evening workshop – Internet of Things – sponsored by Eurotech

We are pleased to announce that Eurotech, a global leader in connecting distributed devices that make up the IoT, is sponsoring the Tuesday evening IoT technical workshop at DevNation 2016.  As a participant, you will not only walk away with a lot more IoT knowledge, but with your very own TI SensorTag.   🙂

IoT RHIoTTag evening workshop

Join us as we utilize a custom Texas Instruments’ SensorTag – we like to call them RHIoTTag – to build an interactive game that integrates with the Eurotech gateway and cloud hosted MQTT server. You will learn about integrating IoT Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensor data into your middleware using MQTT, an ISO standard publish-subscribe based “light weight” messaging protocol.
