This free training is hosted by our partner edX. edX is an open online course provider that now hosts three Red Hat courses, including Fundamentals of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fundamentals of Containers, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift.
Enterprise Java (Java EE is now known as Jakarta EE) is one of the most in-demand and marketable programming platforms. With Fundamentals of Java EE Development, students learn the foundational skills needed to develop modern applications. Serving as an introduction to enterprise Java development using Red Hat Developer Studio and Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, this course builds on students’ Java SE skills to teach the basic concepts behind more advanced topics such as microservices and cloud-native applications.

Attention desktop IDE users: Red Hat Developer Studio 12.9 and the community edition, JBoss Tools 4.9.0 for Eclipse 2018-09, are now available. You can download the Developer Studio bundled installer, which installs Eclipse 4.9 with all of the JBoss Tools already configured. Or, if you have an existing Eclipse 4.9 (2018-09) installation, you can download the JBoss Tools package.
This article highlights some of the new features in both JBoss Tools and Eclipse Photon, covering WildFly, Spring Boot, Camel, Maven, and many Java-related improvements—including full Java 11 support.
Developer Studio/JBoss Tools provides a desktop IDE with a broad set of tooling covering multiple programming models and frameworks. If you are doing container/cloud development, there is integrated functionality for working with Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, Red Hat Container Development Kit, and Red Hat OpenShift Application Runtimes. SOAP-based services are plentiful in many enterprise solutions and are slowly being replaced by RESTful services to simplify their use. There is a new wizard to help you make the transition with Apache Camel’s Rest DSL added in the latest version of Red Hat Fuse Tooling. This article shows how to use the new wizard to transition from older SOAP-based services to more modern REST-based services.
If you aren’t familiar, Red Hat Fuse is an integration platform based on Camel and a number of other projects. The updating Fuse Tooling is available in Red Hat Developer Studio 12.0.0, the desktop IDE that is based on Eclipse 4.8 Photon. You can also get the new wizard by adding JBoss Tools 4.6 to your existing Eclipse 4.8 Photon installation by downloading it directly, or installing via the Eclipse Marketplace.

- Red Hat Container Development Kit provides a pre-built container development environment to help you develop container-based applications quickly using Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes.
- Red Hat Developer Studio (previously named JBoss Developer Studio) provides a desktop IDE with superior support for your entire development lifecycle. It includes a broad set of tooling capabilities and support for multiple programming models and frameworks. Developer Studio provides broad support for working with Red Hat products and technologies including middleware, business automation, and integration, notably Camel and Red Hat Fuse. Developer Studio is based on Eclipse 4.8 (Photon).
A number of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) development tools have been updated. These include Rust 1.26.1, Go 1.10.2, Cargo 1.26, and Eclipse 4.8 (Photon).

Support for Java™ 10
Java™ 10 is now supported with Red Hat JBoss Developer Studio 11.3.
Please note that Red Hat JBoss Developer Studio does not run on a Java™ 9/10 virtual machine, but allows for managing and building of Java™ 9/10 projects and artifacts. So, you must first define in your workspace a Java™ 9/10 JDK if you want to manage and build Java™ 9/10 projects.
As Java™ 10 is an extension of Java™ 9, please refer to this article for Java™ 9 related support in Red Hat JBoss Developer Studio.

Cloudera Impala is a tool to rapidly query Hadoop data in HBase or HDFS using SQL syntax. You can use Red Hat JBoss Data Virtualization to query that same data via Impala to take advantage of its optimization. You can also combine that data with other data sources in real time. The goal of this guide is to import data from a Cloudera Impala instance, manipulate it, and then expose that data as a data service. This guide includes access to a repository with example scripts, creating a custom base and view model, exposing it as a data service, and finally consuming that data via REST. The JBoss Tools OpenShift tooling uses rsync to sync files between your local workstation and the running pods on an OpenShift cluster. This is used by the OpenShift server adapter to provide hot deploy and debugging features for the developer. If you’re running Red Hat JBoss Developer Studio or JBoss Tools on Windows, there are some issues with file permissions that can be painful. These problems are due to file permission model used on the underlying Windows filesystem being different than the model used by Linux. Linux and macOS users won’t run into these problems. The aim of this article is to explain the root cause and how to fix it.
